Writer's Guidelines

Foreign Policy In Focus (FPIF) encourages unsolicited contributions. If you are a new FPIF contributor, please send representative writing samples (or web links to them) and a CV along with your query. Your query should be brief and explain why your piece is suitable for FPIF. FPIF does not pay for unsolicited contributions that we publish, although we do sometimes offer a small honorarium for pieces that we commission.

We publish commentaries, which are 750-1,200 words, and address U.S. foreign policy and global affairs. We also publish more in-depth reports that run as long as 4,000 words.

We are also looking for pieces for:

  • Fiesta, which looks at the intersection of foreign policy and culture (1,000-2,000 words)
  • Postcard From..., a picture accompanied by 400 words
  • Annotate This, which are dissections of major speeches, government documents, and important news articles
  • Youth and Activism, dispatches from civic movements involved in foreign policy

We look forward to your participation in FPIF's think tank without walls!
