VIDEO: World Bank Protest, Pacific Rim v. El Salvador
Pacific Rim is suing El Salvador for up to hundreds of millions of dollars under the U.S.-Central America Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA) for not approving a mining license. Since Canada isn't part of this agreement, Pacific Rim opened a subsidiary in Reno, Nevada. On December 15, 2011, a number of civil society groups came together to oppose the World Bank tribunal that is deciding the case, outside the World Bank building in Washington DC.
Participants delivered an open letter, coordinated by the Institute for Policy Studies, to an office at the World Bank signed by more than 244 organizations, representing hundreds of millions of people. View the open letter.
