Mr Khatami, it is apparent that whatever thin understanding of American/Western grassroots movements you have is uninformed and needs to be reexamined. It is obvious that you have never attended a peace and global justice rally or teach-in here in the U.S., or that you misunderstand the aims of groups like Public Citizen, the AFL-CIO, and other NGOs like IPS which are attempting to break down the rule of corporate powers and US hegemony for the betterment of all. I would hardly call such global justice NGOs "pro-Western" : I would call them "pro-justice" and "pro-democracy" and "pro-peace". Although I might agree that some Human Rights/democracy movements are misguided in their attempts to spread democracy abroad (something that definitely warrants considerable suspicion and reassessment) I think you should spend some more time talking to American/Western activists and find out why we are so committed to these movements. Movements, which I might add, are taking place not only here in the US, but internationally (Argentina, Palestine, Tibet and China, South Africa, and India come to mind.)
Please make an attempt to make a distinction between the US government that puts in place imperialist policies and the many US citizens who are working hard everyday to stop them.
