RAWA, the Revolutionary Association of the Women of
Afghanistan, was established in Kabul, Afghanistan, in 1977 by a
group of Afghan woman intellectuals. It is an independent political/social
organization of Afghan women fighting for human rights and social
justice and for the creation of a democratic and secular Afghanistan.

will be publicized and sent to President Bush and other world
leaders as a show of youth support for nonviolence.

and reactionary laws against women and for the improvement of women's
status in Afghanistan. We call on all human rights, women's and

on Women's Rights in Afghanistan and contribute to the formation
of a powerful international front in defense of secularism and women's

Founded in April 1957, JALISA became a member of International
Association of Democratic Lawyers (IADL) to engage in international
solidarity activities as one of leading organizations of democratic
lawyers in Japan. The Association has also endeavored to establish
friendly relations with democratic lawyers of many countries. As
lawyers of Japan, the only A-bombed country in the world, it has
also pursued efforts for the elimination of nuclear weapons. Recognizing
the perilous situations in the world today, i.e. the continued presence
of nuclear weapons and military blocks in spite of the end of the
cold war, and the pursuance of profits by giant capitalists etc.,
threatening the people's existence worthy of human dignity on a
global scale, and being caused by the policy of the governments
concerned, the Association deems it its grave mission to eradicate
such threats and injustice. |

Prize Laureates |
In response to the tragic events in New York and Washington,
DC, eight Nobel Peace Laureates have taken the rare step of issuing
a common statement in which they express their profound commiseration
with the family and friends of the victims and appeal to the government
of the United States to refrain from military action in retaliation.
They emphasize that existing standards of international law must
be employed in bringing those responsible for these barbaric acts
to justice.

Women Living Under Muslim Laws (wluml.org)
is an international Network that provides information, solidarity

governed by laws and customs said to derive from Islam. The Network
