Working Toward a Coordinated Citizen Response

The Justice Not War site aims to serve as a central clearinghouse that offers the following:

  • Information about groups and coalitions (inside and outside the U.S.) that oppose unilateral expressions of U.S. militarism in the campaign against terrorism
  • Prescriptive foreign policy analysis about terrorism and counterterrorism.

Will these and future bombings, covert operations, and other military operations really protect us? Are they the right, just, and smart response to the new threat of international terrorism? Many have grave doubts. While most Americans, as well as the international coalition, support a relatively short war, there is growing concern that a more elaborate conflict risks turning into a global war that will lead the U.S. into new political and military quagmires while only fanning the flames of terrorism and doing little to increase our national security.

Foreign Policy In Focus has formulated an alternative framework to increase national security and counter terrorism.

Post 9-11: Optimism of the Will
By John Gershman (February 7, 2002)

I'd like to offer these comments in the vein of presenting some "optimism of the will" to complement the "pessimism of the intellect" of the previous speakers at this FPIF conference on weapons of mass destruction http://www.fpif.org/presentations/wmd01/index.html .
