About The Forum:

For the past year, an amalgam of 180 countries, NGO's, and grassroots organizations in every corner of the world have been organizing to ensure grassroots participation at the UN Conference Against Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia & Related Intolerance to be held in Durban, South Africa August 31st to September 7th. The Bush administration is threatening to boycott the conference. Come and hear the views and analysis of two prominent activists working on this issue. This open-panel discussion shall provide a view into the way people plan to promote their agenda at the conference. The featured speakers will explore issues ranging from International Day of Action Against Racism to the resistance of the White House to attend and formally recognize the conference.

 

About The Speakers:

Bob Brown: An international activist for over 30 years, beginning with organizations such as C.O.R.E., Mr. Brown has worked with peoples' movements all around the world and is currently director of the Kwame Ture Workstudy Institute & Library. Mr. Brown is working with the International Day of Action Against Racism involving 13 countries around the world, including 55 organizations in the United States, that have called for I.D.A.A.R., a series of local, de-centralized actions and events at 6:00 p.m. on 31 August, the opening day of WCAR.

Salih Booker: Mr. Booker is the Executive Director of Africa Action. From 1995 through 1999, Mr. Booker directed the Council on Foreign Relations Africa Studies Program. During the past twenty-two years, Mr. Booker has traveled to and worked in 26 of Africa's 54 countries.
